Kim So-jeong and Jeong Seung-ho, who are enrolled in the Master’s Program at Sogang Business School, won the grand prize at the 29th Small and Medium Venture Business Support Policy Idea Contest hosted by the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency. The awards ceremony was held at the FKI Tower in Yeouido, Seoul on October 27.

This idea contest has been conducted since 1991 in the form of public participation for the development of new support projects and innovation in institutional operation. This year, communication has been strengthened by reflecting public opinions in the final evaluation to improve policy services required by consumers. In this contest, a total of seventy-three policy ideas and research papers were received in five fields including post-COVID response, Korean New Deal 2.0, and regional innovation. Sixteen finalists, including two grand prizes, were selected through a public survey and evaluation by experts.

Sogang University's team, which was awarded the grand prize in the research thesis category, received good reviews for their thesis, “A Study on the Application of Explainable AI (XAI) for Evaluation of Small and Medium Enterprises”. In this paper, the Sogang team proposed an AI-based credit evaluation method and an algorithm to interpret the results, paying attention to the inefficiency and complexity of information, which are weaknesses of existing SME credit evaluation studies.

Student Jeong Seung-ho said, “I conducted a weekly study with my professor, and the contents related to credit evaluation that I learned from the professor at that time were very helpful. I want to focus more on research and become a great data analyst who can be active in practice.”
