Award Won in Literary Criticism at

2021 Seoul Shinmun Spring Literary Contest

Jeon Seung-min, a senior student in Sogang University's Department of English Literature & Linguistics, had the honor of winning the Award in Literary Criticism at Seoul Shinmun's Annual Literary Contest for 2021, recognized for "The Language Touching Untouchability: The Sonograph of the Sense of Touch in -Greek Lessons written by Han Kang.“

The judges for the contest, literary critics Kim Mi Hyun and Yoo Sung Ho, commented, "The work is unique in that it represents a theory on a literary work extending to that of a writer while deepening from a writer's theory to that of literature. It goes on to present an analysis with enormous concentration given to how a human being with existential limitations from loss of sight and language can return to his/her original self through the sense of touch. Also noteworthy was the persistence to connect human suffering or the problem of salvation through language. We made our final decision based on our belief in the writing and the critic's great potential for advancement."

Jeon Seung-min said, "If my writing can succeed in touching someone's heart and conveying a certain 'goodness,' then it must be my family that created this skill in me. I believe that you must live a good life in order to be a good writer. It won't be easy, but I will not give up working fiercely to live and write well."

Jeon Seung-min had previously won the Award for Critical Criticism at the 19th Daesan Literary Awards for College Students, hosted by The Daesan Foundation and co-organized by Changbi Publishers Inc., in December 2020.
