Sogang Academic Collection Chosen among

2020 Excellent Academic Books

Two titles from the Sogang Academic Collection, published by Sogang University Press, have been chosen as 2020 Excellent Academic Books. The Excellent Academic Books project, organized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of the Republic of Korea, considered 3,284 new titles for academic books in this first edition published by 381 Korean publishers between March 2019 and February 2020. Of the total, 271 titles (66 in Liberal Arts, 96 in Social Science, 36 in Korean Studies, and 73 in Natural Science) were chosen as excellent publications.

The title from the Sogang Academic Collection chosen among the Excellent Academic Books in the Social Science Field was When American Politics Meeting International Relations, by Professor Seo Jungkun, Department of Political Science & International Relations of Kyung Hee University, which provides a systematic exploration from diverse viewpoints, such as ideological tradition, political procedures, legislation politics, and competition among political parties, while considering the correlation between American politics and international relations.

The title from the Sogang Academic Collection chosen in the Korean Studies Field was Korean Word Formation for Discovery, by Jeong Handero (Present Professor in the Department of Korean Language & Literature of Gachon University, former Research Professor of Sogang University), which is appraised for having broken free from the previous word-formation research frame focused on an individual speaker's internal 'grammar' to comprehend the general social realm, including the speaker, and expanding the research to encompass social and macroscopic standards.

The NAS is planning to survey demand from colleges for the 271 chosen titles up until August 2020, and the academy will then make distributions to college libraries in the latter part of the year, up to the amount of KRW 2.6 billion.
