The Christmas manger, which reenacts the scene of the stable in Bethlehem where the Christ Child was born, was established for the upcoming Christmas holidays in the square in front of Albatross Tower at the front gate.

Sogang University has annually recreated the Christmas manger scene to celebrate Christmas since 2000. Containing different concepts and meanings every year and reflecting the phase of the current times, Sogang’s Christmas manger is not just a structure but an evolving artwork that describes the tradition of Catholic liturgy and the unique tradition of Sogang.

This year’s manger was created under the theme of “Connection: life blooms when hearts reach one another.” It contains the hope that people harmonize under love through the birth of Jesus, the symbol of love and comfort, in a world where boundaries are built up between different people, and disunity, conflict, and hatred are propagated.

“Before year’s end, we have created each manger under the theme that comforts those who are hurt, reflecting the minds of Sogang members. We hope that people can feel the joy and meaning of Christmas with this manger showing the warmth of love,” said Father Kim Min-hoe of Campus Ministry Affairs at the Christmas manger’s blessing ceremony on Thursday, December 1.

The manger will stand at the front gate of Sogang University until January 8, 2023, when the Christmas season comes to a close in the Catholic liturgical calendar.
