Sogang Honors Wall Consecration Ceremony Held

In honor of the great supporters of Sogang, the Honors Wall Consecration Ceremony was held on Tuesday, November 17, on the first floor of the Administration Building. Attended by Chairman Park Mun Su, President Park Jong Gou, Executive Vice President Choi Soon Jae (Academic Affairs), Acting Executive Vice President Oh Kyung Whan (Research & External Affairs), Vice President for Public Affairs Kim Juho, Dean Kim Sang-yong of the Campus Ministry, and other major officers of the school, the ceremony was held in the order of 'Opening Address, Procedure Report, Blessing Ceremony, Commemorative Address, and photograph taking.'

 

Head of the Office of Public Affairs, Cho, Yongsu who chaired the ceremony, reported on the procedure for the Honors Wall's establishment and explained the standards for decisions relating to the Honors Club.

 

The construction of the Honors Wall began by removing the garden around the fountain on the first floor of the Administration Building. Next, new flooring was put down, with tiles and a wooden structure installed around it. Finally, the 'Honors Club' title and names were fixed, followed by the installation of the multi-vision screen made up of four 55-inch monitors. In addition to the construction, the 'Sogang Donation of Love' kiosk in the Gonzaga Convention Wedding Hall, was also installed, allowing anyone to make donations (by credit card) toward Sogang's development.

 

To give due courtesy and to deepen and broaden the signs of love, donors were named in accordance to the funds given: 'Honors Club' membership is awarded for funds of KRW 100 million or more, and each club is titled with a saint's name to commemorate Catholic educational ideals. Donors of KRW 100 million or more within the past five years are named as members of the 'Arrupe Club,' while donors of KRW 500 million, KRW 1 billion, and KRW 5 billion within the past 10 years are named as members of the Ricci, Xavier, and Ignatius Club, respectively.

Dean Kim Sang-yong of the Campus Ministry prayed for blessings in each of the donors' names for their having shared valuable goods for young Koreans in need. In particular, he consecrated his prayer for blessings that the many young people at Sogang who will be passing this wall during their daily studies may materialize their visions at Sogang. The prayer ceremony was followed by the consecration of Genesis 1:16 by Rev. Simon Kim Min-hoi from the Campus Ministry Affairs Division.

During his Commemorative Address, President Park Jong Gou said, "Through this space of appreciation called the Honors Wall, we are now able to cherish the donors who have supported Sogang's steps toward the shaping of the future. I will use the birth of this space as momentum to pledge that I will do my very best for Sogang's healthy future and growth, so that the donors' warm hearts and valuable spirits may be revived on the Sogang campus."
