President Sim Jong-hyeok said, “Congratulations everyone on your honorable graduation. Sogang University has trained you to become excellent leaders, and now it is time for you to show the world that excellence. Sogang will continue to innovate fearlessly and will be a reliable partner for you so you can proudly tell everyone you went to Sogang. I encourage all of you to defy the odds and I will pray for each of you to live a successful life serving and working in our society.”

The valediction was delivered by the valedictorian Park Joon-woo (Economics 17, head journalist of the 5th Sogang Gazette). He said, “Sogang has always been with me, from the process of understanding my weaknesses to the process of loving myself.  With the wisdom that Sogang has given in mind, I will not stop challenging myself, and I will make Sogang proud of me. Now, we are leaving the campus with many fond memories so that we can go out into the real world, but I hope to meet you all again with success.” After presenting the top graduates of each college with an award certificate and the representatives with bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees, the commencement came to an end with the students throwing their graduation caps into the air. Throwing their graduation caps into the air is a symbolic gesture for the start of a new chapter in a wider world beyond the university boundaries.
