Registration Ceremony for ‘Sogang Honors Wall’ to Share the Valued Wishes of Benefactors

- Opening a place for harmony and exchange by the registration of combined donors of the School, Corporation, and Alumni Association -

A registration ceremony for ‘Honors Wall’ was held on the 1st floor of the Administration Building on Monday, November 15 to commemorate the valued wishes of those who made donations to Sogang University.

The registration ceremony was attended by key officials including Jesuit Provincial Kim Yong-su of the Korea Province, Chairperson Park Munsu, President Sim Jong-hyeok and the Sogang Alumni Association Chairman Kim Kwang-ho. The occasion was moderated by Vice President Jeong Ok-hyun for Public Affairs and contained a consecration ceremony and blessing prayer by Dean Kim Sang-yong of Sogang Campus Ministry, a commemorative speech by President Sim Jong-hyeok, congratulatory speeches from each VIP, unveiling ceremony of the ‘Honors Wall’ and included a photo shoot.

The registration ceremony embodies great meaning as it signifies the integration and extension of mutual exchanges of Sogang members. The Office of Public Affairs decided to improve the existing guidelines which allowed only the school development funds to be registered by not only registering funds for the school, but also funds for the corporation and the general alumni development. This assists in cultivating an atmosphere in which Sogang members can actively interact to extend the values of Sogang, which is the core strategy of ‘Sogang Vision 2030’ and to celebrate and share the valued wishes and contributions of donors to Sogang. A total of 154 individuals and groups were added to the list replacing the existing 39 people list according to the improved registration courtesy standards.

In his commemorative speech, President Sim Jong-hyeok declared, “The physical distance between us has become somewhat larger due to the coronavirus pandemic which has lasted for nearly two years, however, the warmth of our love and devotion for Sogang nourishes the school just as strong roots nurture a tree.” And he added, “The gratitude for the virtuous wishes to be listed on Sogang ‘Honors Wall’ will become a strong pillar for the development of Sogang in the future.”

In response, the Chairman of the Sogang Alumni Association said, “I am deeply grateful to the school for venerating benefactors through today’s Honors Wall registration ceremony which provides a significant turning point for many people who can take a cue from this and begin their contribution in the development of the school. The Alumni Association will also actively cooperate and make efforts for the development of the school.”

Chairperson Park Munsu took this chance to express his utmost gratitude to all benefactors who have generously contributed to Sogang over the past few years, including the construction of campus buildings and support for research funds by saying, “I hope that through this Honors Wall, we can feel and share the warmth from many who love Sogang”.

Last year, the Honors Wall was established to cherish and show respect to those who donated. The Honors Wall is the Hall of Fame for Donors and is located on the first floor of the Administration building lobby. It was arranged as a special commemorative area for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Sogang University. Donors who donated KRW 100 million or more to the school development fund are registered as members of the 'Honors Club' which includes a variety of clubs. The entitlement to be an associate of Arrupe Club is given to donors of over KRW 100 million and the entitlement to become a member of Ricci Club, Xavier Club, and Ignatius Club is given to donors of KRW 500 million or more, KRW 1 billion or more, and KRW 5 billion or more, respectively.
