Sign an industry-academia cooperation business agreement to foster ICT female talents

On October 28, Sogang University, the IT Business Women’s Association, and SGU Holdings Co., Ltd. signed an Industry-Academia Cooperation Agreement to Foster ICT Female Talents. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from each institution, including President Sim Jong-hyeok, Chairwoman Park Yoo-kyung of the IT Business Women’s Association, CEO Koo Myoung-wan of SGU Holdings Co., Ltd., Director Cheong Hyeon-sik of Sogang University Research & Business Development Foundation (SUR&BDF), and Honam Branch Chairman Go Cheong-sim.


The Korea IT Business Women’s Association was established to contribute to national industrial development by strengthening the competitiveness of female entrepreneurs in the IT field and fostering ICT female talents. Also, the Association expanded the opportunities of women who took a break in their career to return to work. Currently, the Association is performing tasks such as supporting women-powered companies, nurturing talents, supporting women with career breaks, and supporting informatization.


Through this agreement, each institution will, with the purpose of cultivating female ICT talents, ▲exchange information and materials related to research and development activities for female IT entrepreneurs ▲Hold short-term educational lectures and seminars to strengthen the capabilities of IT female entrepreneurs and employees ▲ Carry out joint research programs with SUR&BDF’s Industry-Academia Cluster ▲ Support mentoring and corporate internships for female students at Sogang University and female leaders in science and engineering, and ▲ Cooperate with each other for management and technology consulting of SGU Holdings Co., Ltd.

 

At the signing ceremony, President Sim Jong-hyeok said, “Through this agreement, we expect that activities such as joint R&D, education and seminars for IT female entrepreneurs, mentoring and internships for female students of science and engineering at Sogang University will be more active. We will spare no effort at the school level so that female talents can be active in the IT field in the university.” Then he added, “I hope that this industry-academia cooperation will lead to more active joint research of the industry-academia cluster and develop into an excellent industry-academia-research institute cooperation model for the university.”


CEO Park Yoo-kyung responded by saying, “I am delighted to be able to contribute to the development of female ICT talents together with Sogang University and SGU Holdings. We will foster global female talents by strengthening the capabilities of female ICT people."


Meanwhile, Sogang University, which is focusing on research and education in IT technology fields such as software, artificial intelligence and metaverse, is not only developing various programs for female science and engineering students in the undergraduate and graduate schools to nurture ICT female talents, but also it is steadily expanding support for industry-academia-research institute cooperation between companies and research institutes. Furthermore, SGU Holdings will establish an industry-academia cluster in the ICT field that provides technology and management consulting for IT female entrepreneurs to support technology introduction and technology transfer to the university.
