Sogang and LG Electronics, MOU for ‘LG Track’ at Department of Artificial Intelligence, Sogang Graduate School


- Fostering outstanding talents in Artificial Intelligence for industries expected to grow, such as artificial intelligence, big data, robots, and automobiles

- First round of recruitment from October 6 to 13 of this year, with full scholarship upon acceptance and guaranteed employment at LG after graduation

 On Friday, September 24, Sogang University and LG Electronics signed an MOU for mutual cooperation in the operation of the ‘LG Track’ at the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Sogang Graduate School. The signing ceremony was attended by President Sim Jong-hyeok, Executive Vice President Song Tai-kyong of Academic Affairs, Executive Vice President Kim Soon-kee of Research & External Affairs, Director Noh Do-yeop of Human Resources Department at LG Electronics, Team Leader Choi Jun-hee of Talent Recruiting Team at LG Electronics, and others related participants.


 Signing this agreement, Sogang and LG is launching the 'LG Track' at the Department of Artificial Intelligence as a graduate program of Sogang University in March 2022, and cooperate to nurture talents in AI for industries expected to grow in the future, such as artificial intelligence, big data, robots, and automobiles.


Sogang university admits 18 new students for this Master’s program every year through the ‘LG Track’. Successful applicants receive an industry-university scholarship of KRW 18 million per year in addition to the school's TA (teaching assistant) and RA (research assistant) allowances, and are guaranteed employment at LG Electronics upon graduation. In addition, LG Electronics designs the curriculum for AI majors in collaboration with the university, and supports major operating expenses and student internship programs during vacations. The 'LG Track' curriculum is planned to be further developed into a practical, industry-university link course that can satisfy the needs of LG affiliates by expanding to autonomous driving, mobile robots, bio/healthcare, connected AI (communications), smart home appliances, and rechargeable battery BMS.


 President Sim Jong-hyeok expressed his gratitude for the cooperation of LG Electronics and said, "This agreement will serve as an important opportunity for university-industry cooperation to nurture talented people who will lead the rapidly growing artificial intelligence industry. And it is expected that the best experts in the field of artificial intelligence will be fostered to prepare and lead future technologies in areas such as smart home, automobile and public space.” He added, "Sogang University will spare no effort so that LG Electronics can secure and select the excellent human resource needed, and we will continue to work hard to further the relationship between LG and Sogang University."


Director Noh Do-yeop of Human Resources Department at LG Electronics, responded by saying, “We already have many Sogang University alumni at LG Electronics working together for the advancement of the company. Thanks to such contribution, LG Electronics is now in the process of making the world's No. 1 products and is preparing for the next step. I hope that the 'LG Track', to be launched with this agreement, will allow us to continue working with excellent students of Sogang, and I look forward to the promotion of further research through networking and exchanges between LG and Sogang University.”


Meanwhile, in accordance with the 'Sogang Vision 2030', Sogang university kicks off  Department of Artificial Intelligence as a graduate program in March 2022, with the aim to strengthen the AI education and research capabilities, which are the core of the future industry.  Under this program, there are two tracks operated: the ‘Smilegate (Digital Human & Entertainment) Track’ and the ‘LG Track.’ Both tracks select students to be granted industry-university scholarship from October, and the detailed recruitment schedule will be posted on the graduate school website.
