Sogang Selected as '2022 Seoul Campus Town Unit-type Project'

- Creating a high value-added startup community that leads future innovation in the neighborhood with support of up to KRW 1.5 billion for three years -

Sogang has been selected as a participating university for the '2022 Seoul Campus Town Unit-type Project.'

The Campus Town Project is carried out by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to create a 'University City Seoul' by building future value through the mutual growth of the youth, universities, and regions.

As a selected university, Sogang will receive up to KRW 1.5 billion in support for three years (from 2022 to 2024) and all buildings owned by the school will be provided as dedicated spaces for nurturing founding entrepreneurs, thereby developing the site into a cradle for global startups.

Mapo-gu is an area with a higher proportion of young people compared to the whole country and the greater Seoul area, and the social demand for nurturing startups here is high. With this backdrop, Sogang plans to build a system that enables startups to grow in a stable manner through the startup-growth phased incubation program by utilizing its 20 years of experience in operating the Business Incubator and the know-how accumulated through cooperative projects with various local governments, including Mapo-gu.

In addition, the school is planning to boost the local economy and create a startup ecosystem through various regional win-win programs that local residents and small business owners can participate in, such as the programs linked with Mapo Startup Naroo and Mapo-gu small business online market development-support projects.

Sogang President Sim Jong-hyeok expressed his aspirations by stating, "We will actively utilize the excellent human resources and technology of Sogang, our startup infrastructure, and the startup know-how accumulated over many years as a base for supporting startups in the northwestern region in order to foster excellent startups and revitalize the local economy."
