Receives the 12th Sohyun Academic Award of

the Korean Society of French Language and Literature


 


Jun Jaeyeon, a lecturer for the French Culture Major in the Department of European Languages and Cultures, was selected as the recipient of the Language and Culture sector for the 12th Sohyun Academic Award in the Korean Society of French Language and Literature in 2022. The award ceremony was held during the regular general meeting of the Korean Society of French Language and Literature in the Humanities Korea Building of Kyungpook National University on Saturday, December 3, with the winner awarded a certificate and prize money.


Established on July 12, 1965, the Korean Society of French Language and Literature is Korea’s largest academic organization in terms of French language and literature, boasting about 600 members devoted to the spirit of France, with a focus on French literature, language, and culture. The academic society awards the Sohyun Academic Award to excellent part-time researchers every other year in an effort to strengthen the research capabilities of its members and to foster outstanding scholars.


The selected paper by lecturer Jun Jaeyeon is titled Lexical Recategorization in French: the Case of Noun Attributes Preceded by TRÈS (Recatégorisation lexicale en français: le cas des noms attributs précédés de TRÈS), which was published in French Language and Literature Studies (Etudes de Langues et Littérature Francaises) in March 2022. The paper explains the categorical characteristics of the phrases in which bare nouns are used as the attribute (attribut) and modified by the degree adverb “très like an adjective in the French phrase copulative. Jun Jaeyeon thoroughly analyzed various syntactic behaviors of such phrase and the syntactic and semantic conditions where the chain occurs, explaining the characteristics of such phrase that show properties of both an adjective and a noun in the view of syntactic recategorization.


This paper proposed a different analysis from existing studies by presenting various example sentences verified by native speakers, and it will contribute to French education as a research result that provides important information to French researchers and French learners, said the academic panel of judges, reflecting high appreciation for the paper.
