Kong Dae-hyeon, a student in the master’s program (under advisor Professor Kang Suk-ju) and currently enrolled in the Department of Electronic Engineering, achieved excellent results in the CLOVA AI RUSH contest hosted by Naver. The contest was held in a non-face-to-face format over the course of 46 days from May 22 to July 1, 2021, with challenges related to various data and questions provided by Naver. Kong was awarded 1st place in the 1st round, ‘Shopping AI Development – Shopping Category Classification,’ and was also honored with 1st place in the final 2nd round, ‘Shopping AI Development – Shopping Catalog Clustering.’

Models that achieved excellent results in this project are given the opportunity to apply to Naver services (Naver Map, Blog, Naver Shopping, Smart Editor, and music-recommendation service) and are given the chance to provide their items to tens of millions of Naver users. In addition to a prize of KRW 15 million, as first-prize winner, Kong will be given the opportunity to complete a 2021 summer internship at Naver and recruitment privileges for exempting documents and coding tests when applying for Naver recruitment.

When asked about the experience, Kong said, “It was very rewarding to be able to contribute to the price-comparison function on Naver Shopping, which is a service I often use. It was great to build up my data-processing and development skills in a short period of time by directly dealing with real-world data that is usually difficult to access for common users. I would like to thank the professor and lab members for their generous support and consideration, which allowed me to participate in the competition.”
