Ahn Joon-Mo of Graduate School of MOT

Appointed as Y-KAST Member

Professor Ahn Joon-Mo of the Graduate School of MOT was appointed as a member of the Young Korean Academy of Science and Technology (Y-KAST).

Launched by Korea's prestigious Korean Academy of Science and Technology in 2017, Y-KAST appoints young scientists (under the age of 43) demonstrating remarkable academic performances. In particular, post-doctorate performances achieved as independent researchers in Korea are highlighted for assessment, and final decisions are made for next-generation leaders in science and technology with high potentials to contribute to Korea's scientific and technological advancement.

For 2020, a total of 34 members were appointed, averaging 39.6 years of age: one was in the Division of Policy Studies, 13 in Natural Sciences, 11 in Engineering, four in Agricultural and Fishery Sciences, and five in the Medical Sciences. Professor Ahn is the only next-generation member in the 'Policy Studies Division' as a policy professional with contributions to developing science and technology policies and practical research in science and technology policies. From 2004 to 2015, Professor Ahn served as a government officer, joining in setting policies on the 'national innovation system, basic science promotion, and commercializing research,' and he has received recognition for his leading research in science and technology policy through an academic approach based on science-technology policy-related theories and diverse data.

The newly appointed members will serve for three years, starting in January 2021, with re-appointments available until the age of 45 through a process of judgement.
