Wins Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education's Award

Professor Kim Hyuncheol of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering won the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education's Award for Contributors to Industry-University Cooperation at the online 2020 Industry-University Cooperation Expo, held on Wednesday, December 2.

 

Sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Industry-University Cooperation Expo is an annual event held since 2008 to exchange performance information in industry-university cooperation and explore directions for advancement.

 

The award for Contributors to Industry-University Cooperation is given to 'people with remarkable performances among those with three or more years of experience in industry-university cooperation.' For the 2020 award, recommended candidates submitted applications beginning in September, and the winners were confirmed by the end of November.

 

Professor Kim was recognized for his contributions made in technological transfers and cooperative research with industry, advancing the commercialization of university-developed technology and contributing to the industry.

 

Professor Kim contributed to the startup of IMage Guided Therapy, which, through the patent's technological transfer in 2015, grew to the present 23-employee company with specialized technology for drug delivery. He also pursued continued industry-university cooperation with Handol BioTech in 2019, in the medical and bio fields, achieving the remarkable performance of signing a technological transfer valued at KRW 2 billion.

 

Professor Kim said, "This comes as the result of industry-university cooperation; the students in the lab not only developed technologies and published their developments in papers but also strived to cooperate with industry to commercialize their technologies. I am thankful to all the students in the lab for their cooperative work.“

 

The Industry-University Cooperation Expo held from Wednesday, December 2, through Thursday, December 10, under the topic 'Adding Change to Time with a New Future,' was participated in by over 300 universities and institutions across the country. Consisting of 17 online Performances Exhibition Halls, and Special Halls, the EXPO will be operated as Korea's largest assortment of realistic virtual exhibition halls.
