Department of Chinese Culture has focused its studies on Chinese culture and literature. With this, it was possible to nurture talents with literary attainments. However, there were limitations to nurture Chinese experts who understand exactly on the current status and culture of China. So Department of Chinese Culture that began with useful introspections of Chinese Studies, excluded cultural understandings and analyzed China in regional and social scientific perspectives, it is difficult to understand China in-depth and extensively. Sogang University department of Chinese Culture is the only place in nation to nurture Chinese experts who have good knowledge in Chinese culture. Sogang University Department of Chinese Culture provides the basis to understand the culture, which is the in-depth reasoning of Chinese society and provide the basis to analyze various social phenomenon, which lay on the foundation of the culture, for students to comprehensively understand about China. As the talents with cultural attainments, students will accumulate the ability to pragmatically approach China and have general point of view on China from Department of Chinese Culture at Sogang University. The most significant features of Department of Chinese Culture is that apart from the Chinese language and literature major, which is focused on the Chinese language and literature or Chinese studies, which take a look at China in a regional stance, introduce Chinese language steadily and provide the basis to understand the culture, which is the in-depth reasoning of Chinese society and provide the basis to analyze various social phenomenon, which lay on the foundation of the culture for students to comprehensively understand about China. Furthermore, besides the regular curriculum, through the various lectures and discussions at Chinese Culture Center, study groups and more, people with same interest and orientation are gathered together. Especially, students can build up individual experiences through exchange between the international students who come from Chinese-speaking countries including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and more. Additionally, students are actively participating in various programs through the cooperation between Chinese Embassy and Taipei Mission in Korea. Also by making the best use of the regional advantages between Korea and China, students can gain great experiences of various exchange programs and complete courses in China and receive credits as well.
