Sogang Business School Undergraduate & Graduate

Schools Selected for Highest Honors Chapter of 2019-2020 BGS

(Beta Gamma Sigma)

The undergraduate and graduate schools of Sogang Business School have been honored with their selection in the Highest Honors Chapter of 2019-2020 Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the Honor Society for the world's excellent business schools.

The BGS is an academic society made up of undergraduate and graduate students demonstrating excellent performances at business schools certified by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), one of the most prestigious and representative international certification agencies in the field of business administration. This society is made up of approximately 875,000 lifetime members from over 190 countries, and over 840 universities are certified by the AACSB (including Sogang), which amounts to only about 5% of all the business schools in the world. The winner of the Highest Honors Chapter receives a certificate and scholarship for participation in the Global Leadership Summit (GLS), a global leadership conference sponsored by the BGS headquarters.

The chairperson of the BGS board of directors, Professor Marielle Heijltjes (Executive Director of UMIO, School of Business and Economics) informed Dean Jun Sung Youl of Sogang Business School of the news by email on Friday, September 11. Boasting active BGS-related activities and over 200 lifetime members, Sogang Business School has enjoyed the prestige of being consistently chosen for the Highest Honors Chapter for the past six years (since 2015). Furthermore, more than 20 of the 50 full professors at Sogang Business School are registered as lifetime members of the BGS, and Professor Kim Ju Young even served as the representative director in the Asian Region of the BGS World Headquarters from 2016 to 2019.

After acquiring its AACSB certificate in 2009, Sogang launched the 'Sogang BGS Chapter' in June 2010. Since then, the Sogang Chapter has remained active, engaging over 50 lifetime memberships and sending two student members to attend the GLS every year. New members are currently being recruited to join the 20th alumni for the 2020 autumn semester.

Dean Jun Sung Youl said, "It is an honor that Sogang Business School has been selected for BGS' Highest Honors Chapter." He went on to express his future vision, stating, "I will spare no effort in supporting the Sogang BGS Chapter to broaden its horizons beyond Korea's national borders to spread across all regions of Asia."
