Family of Late Sogang Alumnus Kim Yeong Hun

Donates KRW 100,000,000 for Library Development Fund

On July 22, a special fund-donation ceremony was held in the President's reception room. A member of Sogang's alumni from the Department of Economics in 1987, the late Kim Yeong Hun's family donated KRW 100,000,000 for the Library Advancement Fund. Kim Yeong Hun passed away during his military service as a student-officer in the Korean Navy, and his mother and family presented their donation for library advancement on his behalf. The donation ceremony was held in the attendance of President Park Jong Gou, Acting Executive Vice President of Research & External Affairs Oh Kyung Whan, Head of the Public Affairs Division Kim Juho, Vice President for Budget & Planning Affairs Lee Jong-jin, Director of Sogang Library Lee Insuk, and Vice Director of Sogang Library Han Yeon Sook. They gathered to honor Kim's spirit and expressed their gratitude for this donation.


As a way to explain their motivation for the donation, Kim's mother said, "Sogang University, especially Loyola Library, is where my son has probably left the most traces of all, and my entire family cherishes Sogang because of our Catholic faith." She added, "We hope this donation will be useful for the management and advancement of Sogang, especially Loyola Library, which takes on a symbolic role for the university in ways to help all of Sogang's members achieve their wishes."

 

President Park Jong Gou, in particular, expressed his gratitude by saying, "This valuable fund containing the stories of a Sogang member's family will definitely contribute to the advancement of Sogang." Presenting the plaque of thanks, President Park said, "I hope this college will serve as a restive place for you to stop by whenever you miss your son, and we promise we will always carry on the memory of your son's and your family's noble spirit."
