Sogang University Chosen as a Leader for K-MOOC

Sogang University has been chosen as a second-stage leader university to drive the Korean Massive Open Online Course(K-MOOC) project for the next three years, beginning in 2020.

The project, organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education, received applications for 254 courses from 66 colleges. The Committee of Judges consisting of MOOC specialists and professionals in each discipline made thorough judgements in terms of operational capabilities and excellence of course content. From these applications, the final 14 universities were selected as second-stage K-MOOC leaders.

Since its launch in 2015, K-MOOC has provided 745 courses to the public, enabling everyone to take high-quality college-level online courses, anywhere, anytime. Sogang University was chosen as a first-stage K-MOOC leader university in 2017, developing nine courses over the span of three years, with reinforced capacities in related fields.

For this second-stage course development and operation, Sogang will be funded with an annual budget of 200 million KRW, for a total of 600 million KRW over three years. On the topic of "How to Promote Skills Essential for a Future Society," Sogang is planning to develop four courses (two regular and two micro lessons) per year, for a total of 12 in all.
