Korea C1 Gas Refinery R&D Center held a launch ceremony
to create future energy·chemistry industry based on C1 gas -
On September 18, Korea C1 Gas Refinery R&D Center (Head Lee Jin-won) held a launch ceremony at Jeong Hasang Hall.
Sogang Univeristy Korea C1 Gas Refinery R&D Center (also known as KCGRC) secured ‘fundamental technology overcoming the limitations’ which can actually transit C1 gas from low temperature and pressure to a fuel for transportation and basic chemical materials. By encountering the Post-Oil age, it is a big project which was carried out to meet the needs of the times for creating future resources that can replace coal and petroleum.
Especially, when a competitive technology is developed to produce basic chemical materials (olefin, aromatics, methanol, ethanol, butanol and etc.) through research of Korea C1 Gas Refinery R&D Center, it will be contributed towards creating new growth power from petrochemical industry of the nation. At the same time, with the extension of C1 gas facilities and increase of demands for construction in nation, it will be contributed towards the national growth of steel and plant industry.
Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning plans to support Korea C1 Gas Refinery R&D Center with total of 140 billion won for up to 9 years (annual research fund of about 10 billion~15 billion won) and about 200~300 researchers will participate annually to carry out large scaled integrated research.
On the other hand, at this launch ceremony Sogang University president Yoo Ki-pung, Korea C1 Gas Refinery R&D Center head Lee Jin-won (Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering professor), Baek Il-sub from Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Moon Sang-jin from National Research Foundation of Korea, Noh Hang-duk from CJ Cheil Jedang and some other guests were present at the ceremony.
