President Park Jong Gou visits Sogang Alumni Associations

in New York District and Southern California

“The presence of alumni in the US is a great strength for our alma mater.”

On December 14 and 15, President Park Jong Gou and Director of the External Exchanges Dep. Kim Ju Ho visited the United States to attend the New York District and Southern California Alumni year-end reunions. The New York District Alumni Association reunion was held on December 14 at Crowne Plaza Englewood, New Jersey, and the Southern California Alumni Association reunion was held on December 15 at the Oxford Palace Hotel in Los Angeles.

The New York District Alumni Association's year-end party was attended by Jo Gwang Yong, Chairman of New York Alumni Association, Kim Seung Bin, Chairman of Boston Alumni Association, together with approximately 50 other alumni from New York, New Jersey, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. The California Alumni Association's year-end party was attended by Lee Chan Geun, Chairman of the association, and around 60 other alumni. At the year-end party, the alumni had an opportunity to look back on 2019 and share expectations for the upcoming New Year.

Kim Joo Ho, Director of the External Exchanges Dep., made a presentation to the alumni on ‘The present and future of Sogang’. In particular, he explained the current status of projects that Sogang University is focused on at present, including the Loyola One Project, as well as the establishment of the School of Media, Arts, and Science and the Education Center for International Students. He also introduced the school’s various efforts to promote education and research excellence.

President Park Jong Gou said, “I came to this event to thank the alumni who always care for their alma mater,” and said, “The existence of Korean alumni in the US is a great strength for the alma mater.” He also noted that the presence of alumni who are well-established in the United States and leading the communities is a great help as the understanding of Korean culture grows abroad and the overseas transfer of quality education systems and expertise accumulated by Korean universities grow in importance.
