Public Reading Held with Forrest Gander, 2019 Pulitzer Laureate

A public reading was held in Jeong Hasang Hall at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, October 11, 2019, with American poet Forrest Gander, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2019. At the event, Forrest Gander read his works in various languages including English and Spanish and had an in-depth discussion with the attendants about poetry. In addition, the writer introduced Poetic Film, in which he has recently been interested. The event consisted of a public reading, a Q&A session regarding the writer’s works and creation process, and a book signing.
Forrest Gander’s works have not yet been translated into Korean. Nonetheless, a large audience including members of Sogang University participated, filling the event with their warm energy and love for literature. This public reading was carried out under the name ‘A Writers’ Room,’ which was jointly hosted by the Sogang University Department of English Literature and Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea) as part of Seoul International Writers’ Festival.
Forrest Gander is an American poet and translator; he has published numerous poems, including those in Science & Steepleflower (1998), Torn Awake (2001), and Eye Against Eye (2005), and edited various Spanish and Mexican works. His latest book of poetry, Be With (2018), was nominated for the 2018 National Book Awards, and he won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry.
