Park Chan Min and Park Yeong Jun from the Natural Language Processing Lab (master’s degree students in Computer Science and Engineering, led by prof. Seo Jeong Yeon) participated in Naver’s Natural Language Processing Challenge and were awarded the grand prix. The contest was held for the first time to vitalize the study of natural language processing in Korea, and it was held as an open contest. Sogang’s team comprised of Park Chan Min and Park Yeong Jun earned the grand prix in the division of Semantic Role Labeling (SRL). In addition, they received another award in the Named Entity Recognition (NER) division. The study of natural language processing, one of the major fields in AI, the core technology for the 4th industrial revolution, aims to discover the limitations of machines in understanding human languages. In particular, the divisions of SRL and NER stand at the core of natural language processing. Prof. Seo Jeong Yeon, who leads the Natural Language Processing Lab, said, “I ‘m happy to have proven Sogang’s competitiveness in the AI field by receiving the grand prix in this year’s contest.”
