Han Chang Hyeon and Jeong Hwi Gwan, doctoral degree students in Sogang’s Communications Department, led by Prof. Yu Hyeon Jae, jointly studied “The impact of background reporting and beautification in covering footage of suicides on college students’ perception of suicide,” and their paper was selected to receive the Enzaim Award for 2018, sponsored by Enzaim Health, a company specialized in health communication (http://www.enzaim.co.kr) and conferred by the Korea Health Communication Association. These days, more and more people are concerned with health communication, seeing that it plays a role in communication as a medium for elevating the mental and physical health of Koreans. In particular, with the rising topic of “The era of 100 years of life expectancy,” the academic field is gaining popularity. Prof. Yu Hyeon Jae from the
Communications Department, who led the students in writing this paper, said, “Health communication is a typical convergence field for not only the media and health but also for various technologies to be studied. At present, we are trying to identify the variables through conducting research on the influence of each element in media content for information consumers and eye-tracking and electrocorticography.” At the same time, he congratulated his students on gaining this wonderful outcome through difficult studies.
The award ceremony for the 2018 Enzaim Award was held at the Second Half Symposium for the Korea Health Communication Association at Ewha Womans’ University on December 7.
