Kim Gyeong Hwan and Gu Ja Gwan Received “2018 Sogang Economics Award”

The Graduate School of Economics at Sogang University (Dean: Song Ui Yeong) and the Alumni Association of the Sogang Graduate School of Economics (Chairman: Cho Tae Hyeon) announced Prof. Kim Gyeong Hwan and President Gu Ja Gwan of Samgu I&C as the winners of the 2018 Sogang Economics Award. This year marks the 8th year of the Sogang Economics Award, which recognizes professors demonstrating brilliant academic achievements and businesspeople contributing to the Korean economy.
Prof. Kim Gyeong Hwan graduated from the Sogang Economics Department and gained masters and doctoral degrees in Economics at Princeton. He is an expert in urban economics and public funding. After serving as an assistant professor at Syracuse University, he joined Sogang University as an Economics professor. He also worked as a financial advisor for UN-Habitat, chairman for the Asia Real Estate Academic Association, chairman for the Korea Real Estate Association, chief of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlement, and the primary deputy minister for Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
Gu Ja Gwan, CEO of Samgu I&C, began as a manufacturer of cleaning tools in 1968, eventually growing his business to become an outsourcing company in various fields, such as becoming the biggest building manager in Korea and a manufacturing outsourcing partner, over the last five decades. As of 2019, he has 28,000 employees at his company. CEO Gu, at the age of 61, studied Police Administration at Yongin University and completed his graduate studies in Communications at Yonsei University. At the age of 64, he joined Sogang’s Economics Graduate School and gained a master’s degree. He also served as chair for the Korea HR Service Association and the Korea Security Association.
