Prof. Jang Young-hee Scholarship Dinner Ceremony Held

to Revitalize the Late Professor’s Charity and Kindness

At 7 pm on Wednesday, October 10, figures involved in the Prof. Jang Young-hee Scholarship Program gathered at a restaurant close to Sogang University to hold the dinner ceremony for the program. At the event, President Park Jong Gou, Vice President for International Affairs Seo Jung-yun, Office of International Exchanges Team Leader Kang Sun-kyung, Office of Planning Team Leader Lee Jong Jin, Chief Secretary Yu Shin-jae, and Office of Public Affairs Team Leader Park Hye-im attended. Other than faculty, Hyundai Elevator CEO Jang Byeong-woo, the elder brother of the late Prof. Jang Young-hee (class of 1971, English Literature and Linguistics) and the late professor’s family, Cho Han Seo (English ‘13), Mun Cheol Hyeon (Economics ‘13), and Shim Ye Gu (Sociology ‘14), the three scholarship students, graced the venue.

The Prof. Jang Young-hee Scholarship was founded based on donations from the bereaved family of the late professor, who passed away in 2009, to commemorate her devotion and charity.

The family of the late professor said, “We hope the scholarship program will help Sogang students actively express their unique characteristics and capabilities in society,” greatly encouraging the students, especially Cho Han Seo (English ‘13), who proves his diligence by majoring in three areas.

At dinner, the family of Professor Jang, scholarship students, and the faculty shared their memories. Although we can no longer meet Prof. Jang, her extraordinary affection for Sogang still remains strong, as seen from her family.

To close the event, the faculty and Prof. Jang’s family discussed events for the 10th anniversary of her passing away on May 9 next year.
