a scholarship program that Highlights the Realization of Love and Devotion

At 7:30PM on May 3, Thursday, a dinner ceremony was held with people involved in the late Professor Jang Young-hee scholarship, at a restaurant near Sogang University. At the event, President Park Jong Gou, Vice President for International Affairs Kang Sun-kyung, Chief Secretary Yu Shin-jae, Office of Public Affairs Team Leader Park Hye-im, and other faculty members; Hyundai Elevator CEO Jang Byeong-woo, the elder brother of the late Prof. Jang Young-hee (class of 1971, English Literature and Linguistics), and other family members; and three scholarship students, So Byeong-ho (Class of 2013, English Literature and Linguistics), Park Han-bi (class of 2013, French Culture), and Lim A-hyeon (class of 2014, Political Science), participated and graced the venue.
The Jang Young-hee Scholarship was initiated by the donation from the late professor’s family to commemorate the love and devotion for Sogang of the late Prof. Jang Young-hee, who passed away in 2009.

CEO Jang Byeong-woo gave his book with his signature to the scholarship students at the beginning of the dinner ceremony. The affection for Sogang that the late Prof. Jang Young-hee showed while she was alive was still felt to all attendees. The event was not formal and was just like a family dinner.

At the dinner furnished with warming atmosphere, CEO Jang lavished praise on Sogang students, by saying, “Sogang students are very unique and original, and the school itself is an excellent university.” He added that “I am very proud of my sister who was an English professor of Sogang University,” and that “as my family loves Sogang University, I would like to thank President Park Jong Gou and Sogang University on this occasion, once again.”

The family of the late Prof. Jang and scholarship students, and Sogang faculty enjoyed the casual dinner and honored the late professor. Although students cannot meet Prof. Jang Young-hee in class any more, they still feel her endless love for Sogang from her family.
The late professor’s affection for Sogang was so remarkable that she even remembered the names of all students in class. The late professor Jang Young-hee, who showed endless passion for study and devotion for others, rising from the difficulty of handicap, is still regarded as an affectionate teacher of many Sogang students. Her love and devotion will last forever in the hearts of many Sogang people.
