Department of History Ranks ‘Top Grade’ at 2017 JoongAng Ilbo
University Evaluation’s Department Evaluation
The Department of History of Sogang University has been ranked the ‘Top Grade’ at the ‘Department Evaluation’ of a university evaluation conducted by JoongAng Ilbo. JoongAng Ilbo has evaluated research performances of professors, educational conditions for students, employment rate, etc. targeting the Departments of History at 49 major universities in the Republic of Korea, and the Department of History at this University has been ranked the ‘Top Grade’ along with those Departments at Seoul National University and Pusan National University.
In particular, the Department of History at Sogang University has been ranked first at ‘citation counts per writing or translation’ in the evaluation item of ‘research sector,’ which is a result of other scholars’ citing the papers published by the Department of this University on national academic journals, and the writings and translations. ‘Study on Sajoseonrok(使朝鮮錄)’ by Prof. Kim Han-gyoo at the Department of History at Sogang University was cited 44 times from 2011 to 2015, boasting the highest citation counts among those writings for the evaluation.
In addition, external research funds per professor of the Department of History at Sogang University have been ranked third. The external research funds per professor as of 2015 were KRW 110 million. The representative project is the publication project of Northeast Asian history map, a project that shows the history from the 1st century B.C. to the 19th century A.D. by using a geographic information system (GIS).
