The Albatross Debate Society (ADS), Sogang University’s parliamentary English debate club, won the 20th KIDA National Championship and was awarded the KNC Champion Cup.
The KIDA National Championship, which was initiated in 2013, is the only parliamentary debate competition for university students. The competition is held twice annually; in the first half of the year, the championship format is in the Asian parliamentary style, while in the second half, the championship is in the format of a British parliamentary tournament. Three teams from the ADS—ADS1, ADS2, and ADS3—took part in the competition, with each team comprised of three members. The winner of the championship was team ADS1 (made up of Roh Minyeong, Business Administration major, ’12; Cheong Taeyeong, Business Administration major, ’13; and Jeon Junhyeong, Chinese Culture major, ’15).
On the other hand, Ji Heonseung, Global Korean Studies major, ’13, participated as a juror and was recognized as the fourth excellent juror, while Shin Yeongseon, Business Administration major, ‘09, took part in the championship as a vice-juror, given the task of directing the competition.
