Sogang University topped the list for the Maeil Business Newspaper University Start-up ranking. Sogang University was evaluated and given excellent grades on 21 items; the school was ranked No. 1 in terms of start-up performance among large-scale universities with more than 5,000 enrolled students.
Last year, Maeil Business Newspaper launched a steering committee for the start-up index and assessed university start-ups based on its Maeil Business Newspaper University Start-up Index in order to encourage universities to establish a new paradigm for start-ups led by excellent university entrepreneurs. The steering committee conducted research on all universities listed on the Higher Education in Korea website, including 205 four-year universities and 164 two-year universities. Among the four-year universities, Sogang University and the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) shared first place.
Sogang Business Center is currently supporting 14 resident companies and 38 external companies as part of its active promotion of student start-ups. Recently, the center was graded “S,” the highest grade available, and was recognized as the best center for the sixth year in a row according to the evaluation by the Small and Medium Business Administration.
