Critical Global Studies Institute and Dokumentationszentrum NS-Zwangsarbeit Berlin-Schöneweide held an academic seminar
Critical Global Studies Institute (Head of institute and History Professor Lim, Jie-hyun) at Sogang University and Dokumentationszentrum NS-Zwangsarbeit Berlin-Schöneweide from Berlin held a joint academic seminar from August 14 to 21.
This seminar with the topic of ‘Forced Labor during World War II as a Transnational Phenomenon’ is a regular seminar that is held once a year and researchers, graduate school students and educators related to past history from Germany and Korea interact with each other. In Korea, with the lead of Sogang University professor Lim, Jie-hyun, graduate school students and educators participated together and as the representative from Germay, head of the Dokumentationszentrum Center Tanja Vaituvich and other researchers were included to participate.
Some topics that were discussed from this academic seminar were forced labor and free labor, Nazis forced labor during World War II and forced labor in Southeast Asia, forced labor and sexual exploitation and education related to forced labor at museums and schools, besides, they discussed overall difficulties of history education, its solution, activity/education/research trends of recent past history studies were covered.
This academic seminar will be held every year by taking turns to provide the venue in Korea and Germany also plan to expand its denotation to various regions which were the sites of forced labor in World War II. The next seminar will be held in June 2017 at Sogang University.
